Ray Beltran & BlueMax Band Members
Bass – Grady Lowery
A multi-instrumentalist from Middle Tennessee, developed an appreciation of Blues at a young age. In the early 1990s, Grady was fortunate enough to have seen a number of legendary Blues musicians perform in Chattanooga, Memphis, and Nashville. Grady is motivated by an ambition to preserve the legacy of the genre as well as a desire to reach new audiences.
Drums – Buddy Honeycutt
From Nashville, Buddy Honeycutt has been playing drums for over 30 years specifically specializing in American roots music – Blues, Jazz, Country and anything rhythmic. He has played drums with Joe Beard, Chris Beard, The Hi-Jivers, Devan Jones and Big John Atkinson, among others.
Guitar – Danny Michel
Danny Michel is a highly talented blues guitarist hailing from Knoxville, Tennessee. He began playing guitar at the age of 10 and was performing at the local Blues jams as early as 12. Through the years, Danny has performed with some of the biggest names in Blues, including Blues Legends like Buddy Guy, Kim Wilson, James Harman, Kid Ramos, Rick Estrin, Junior Watson, and many more.
Danny Lee Michel is a true Blues artist and a musical force to be reckoned with in the world of Blues. His passion and respect for the genre and dedication to his craft have truly made him one of the most respected musicians in the industry.
Guitar – Geoff Trabalka
Geoff Trabalka is a blues guitar player from Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He has been performing for over 38 years in Tennessee, the Carolinas, and Michigan.
He plays in a traditional style that reflects his influences, which range from South-side of Chicago artists to the West-side of Chicago artists and modern purveyors of traditional blues and West Coast jump and blues. Geoff has opened shows for Shemekia Copeland, Ron Prince of Big Daddy Kinsey and the Kinsey Report, and the King Bees of North Carolina. He played guitar for Knoxville’s Queen of the Blues, Sara Jordan, in the Jordan Project, and was a regular at the now legendary Sassy Ann’s Blues Jam in the late 1990’s.
His intent is always to provide the flavor of the older, traditional music, paying homage to the great musicians and roots of the past, while putting something of himself in to the music as well.
Ray Beltran – Harmonica & Vocals
Ray Beltran, now residing in Knoxville Tennessee, has been performing for over 35 years all along the West Coast from Seattle to San Diego along with tours in the midwest and southern states. Whether performing as a sought-after sideman or fronting his own band BlueMax, Ray has had the opportunity to share the stage or open for Blues legends such as James Harman, Kim Wilson, Mitch Kashmar, Jimi Bott, Richard Innes, James Cotton, Kirk “Eli” Fletcher, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, Mark Hummel, Billy Flynn, Eddie Clark (drummer for William Clarke and the Red Devils), Rusty Zinn, Popa Chubby, Chris Cain, Kid Ramos, Roy Rogers and many others. Ray has been a multiple invitee to the Seattle Superharp Showcase and his proficiency on both diatonic and chromatic harmonica led to him being a featured instructor at the nationally recognized Jon Gindick Harmonica Instruction Camp, teaching alongside some of the country’s great harmonica performers/instructors such as Dennis Gruenling, Richard Sleigh, Jimi Lee, Kim Field, and others.
Ray Beltran & BlueMax entertain audiences with a brand of Blues centered primarily around the swinging, up-tempo style of West Coast Jump Blues, along with a mix of Chicago and Texas Blues. Ray and his smooth, big-bodied harmonica tone, thoughtful phrasing, and strong vocals lead a band of experienced musical journeymen well-steeped in Blues.
