KURT CRANDALL  BIO

Music has taken Kurt throughout the United States with stops in Kansas City, Washington, D.C., Macon, Chicago, Seattle and most recently Richmond, Virginia. After living in Kansas City and touring throughout the Midwest, he moved back to the East Coast. While in D.C., he played regularly with Jesse James Brown (former bass player for Bo Diddley). After just one year in D.C., Kurt relocated to the Deep South, where he spent three years playing with the Macon Blues All-Stars which included several alumni from Otis Redding’s band.

Kurt left Georgia and moved to Chicago to immerse himself in the city’s storied blues scene as well as travel nationally and internationally to promote his debut album – True Story. During his tenure in Chicago, he landed on the regular rotation at the House of Blues, Shaw’s Crabhouse, Andy’s Jazz Club, Wise Fools Pub and Smoke Daddy and played with blues heavyweights Dave Specter, Kenny Smith, Barrelhouse Chuck and Jimmy Sutton. He is currently promoting his 4th recording – STARTS ON THE STOPS – and looks forward to touring the country and abroad to promote the album.

Kurt was very pleased and honored to receive a 4 star review from DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE as well as be included in there “BEST CDS of 2022” list!
4 STARS – “In addition to tactfully spotlighting the diatonic and chromatic harmonicas, Crandall asserts himself as a strong, personable singer.” – – DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE

“Not only can Kurt Crandall draw on the tradition to create compelling new tunes, he can flat out blow!” – – LIVING BLUES MAGAZINE“Kurt Crandall shines like a diamond on his latest release, mixing Windy City blues, West Coast swing, jazz and more – showing why experts consider him to be one of the most stylish chromatic players in the world today.” – – CHICAGO BLUES GUIDE“It’s certainly encouraging to see folks like Crandall grow as a composer and player on his latest CD – STARTS ON THE STOPS. Find this CD if you want to hear that the blues has a well oiled future!” – – Mark Hummel (renowned harmonic player and writer for BLUES MUSIC MAGAZINE)

“If you’re a fan of the blues, the place where the blues and jazz intersect, or great harmonica playing, you should check out Kurt Crandall and his new CD – STARTS ON THE STOPS.”– – KIM FIELD (harmonica historian & author of HARMONICA, HARPS and HEAVY BREATHERS along with THE BLUES DREAM of BILLY BOY ARNOLD)

The Stella Vees are a popular blues band based in Lexington, Kentucky. The group specializes in traditional electric blues band performed in a similar style to Albert Collins, T Bone Walker, Little Walter and Buddy Guy. With over 22 years of playing and touring together, the band performs with an authenticity, intimacy and steadfast dynamic that’s not often found in modern music. At the same time, they bring to mind the vintage blues once so predominant in Chicago juke joints back in earlier eras, while making it sound fresh and vital for a contemporary crowd.
